Chef Ken Oringer
Ken Oringer, award-winning chef and recipient of the 2001 James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef in the Northeast," has worked in some of the finest kitchens of the world. His diverse background has influenced his extremely creative and innovative approach to cooking.
In 1997, Oringer opened Clio, which quickly received international recognition. Clio was named "Best Newcomer" of the year by Gourmet magazine, "Best Restaurant in Boston" by Food & Wine magazine in 2000 and one of the "Top 50 Best Restaurants in America" 2001 by Gourmet magazine in 2001. In 2002, Oringer opened the now acclaimed sashimi bar, Uni, for his love of Asian flavors. At the restaurant, he displays the same imaginative flair, commitment, quality and attention to detail that has made Clio one of America's best restaurants. Oringer opened his much anticipated Barcelona-inspired tapas restaurant, Toro, in Boston's South End neighborhood in November 2005. For this 55-seat restaurant, he drew inspiration from his travels through Spain and the time he spent in the country's markets and various restaurants. In 2007, Oringer continued his trend of bringing new restaurant concepts to Boston. That spring, he opened La Verdad, an authentic Mexican concept, and that May, he introduced KO Prime, a modern steakhouse, to the chic Nine Zero Hotel. Details Magazine named KO Prime "one of the best new steakhouses in America" in October 2007. In April 2008, Oringer reigned supreme on Food Network's "Iron Chef America" against Iron Chef Cat Cora in the battle featuring coffee as the secret ingredient. Oringer's vast travels have allowed him to draw inspiration from various cultures and culinary pioneers. Ken also has participated in some of the premier culinary events in the world, such as The World Gourmet Summit and Madrid Fusion.
